Wike flags- off design, construction of Law School Staff Quarters in Bwari

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike on Monday flagged off the design and construction of 10 blocks of staff quarters at the Law School in Bwari, Abuja.

Wike who was moved by the delapidating state of students hostel within the Law School premises also approved two
hostels for male and females.
The minister made this known at the Flag- Off ceremony of the design and construction of staff quarters at the Law School, sited at Bwari, Abuja.

The minister stated that there was nothing wrong for the government to provide facilities and infrastructure for a government owned institution like the Law School.

“Mr. President mandated me to provide these facilities.”

“When I came for the last call to the bar, I saw very bad buildings, I couldn’t believe it that this is where lawyers are being trained.”

“We have included funds in the 2025 budget for two hostels in the Law School, one for males and another for females, adding that any body who is not satisfied and is angry with what I am doing for the judiciary should wait for their turn to do for their profession,” Wike emphasized.

However, the minister also urged that it was high time the Law School was added to benefit from TETFund.

“It’s getting too late for the Nigerian Law School to be added to benefit from TETFund. It too late to amend the TETFund status to accommodate the school.”

Wike gave the assurance that these projects will not be abandoned, affirmed that there was fund for the contractor, so there was no reason for delay.

“I believe contracts should be awarded and finished, not to abandon it, waste government money and suffer for the people”, he said.

Furthermore, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) thanked Wike, a Life Bencher for making Mr. President to approve the project.

“Whether you like him or not you like him (Wike), you can’t dispute the fact that he is performing.”

Mr. Project does not embark on projects he does not have money for. He is a crusader of ‘if you do not have money don’t award contract, Justice Fagbemi noted.

He also expressed disappointment that it was unfortunate that TETFund law did not capture the Law School.

The Attorney General charged other Nigerians to do the same in other campuses.

In the same manner , Chairman of Body of Benchers, Adegboyega Awomolo thanked the FCT Minister for the good gesture he has been extending to the judiciary.

“History will write your name in gold at the appropriate time. Wike will be one of those who will never be forgotten in the FACT for what he’s doing, Awomolo noted.

Earlier, Acting Executive Secretary, of FCDA Engr. Richard Unana explained that 10 blocks of four bedroom structures as staff quarters would be fully furnished with other necessary supplies.

While the contract project is expected to be delivered in nine months, the contractor promised to take advantage of the dry climatic condition in Abuja to deliver in six months.
