Wike Insists on Quality Finishing of Projects Ahead of Presidential Commissioning

…Says Era of Land Speculation is Over in Abuja
By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister Barr Nysome Wike had demanded for quality finishing at the Mabushi Bus Terminal and other sites due to be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his second anniversary in office.
Wike made this known on Tuesday after inspecting the Mabushi Bus Terminal, Apo- Wassa interchange roads and the Kubwa Expressway.
The FCT Minister who re-echoed the contractor’s affirmation to finish the project by June for presidential commissioning, stated that quality finishing is key for the Mabushi project.
Wike said, “I will not accept the finishing because finishing is key, and the contractor must come back here to do what he is supposed to do. So that we will invite the President to come and inaugurate the Mabushi Bus Terminal.”
“We are happy with what we are seeing, but the finishing of structures like this is key,” he said.
He explained that he has mandated the Transport Secretariat to ensure the work is done properly.
The minister used the occasion to warn that the era of land speculation in Abuja is over.

Wike frowned at instances when people purchase land
and refuse to pay for C-of- O within 21 days, and not develop the land within two years.

“Somebody who wants land in Abuja, and cannot develop it in 2 years’ time, that’s simply land speculation.”
“Secondly, if you have been given an allocation, you should be able to pay within 21 days. To have your C-of-O. That also is to generate funds for the government.”

“So many people will have R-of-O and keep it for 4 years, looking for who will buy the land before. So we would rather not allow that.”
“Anybody can say whatever they want to say. We are trying to stop this issue of land speculation. Why would you not develop a land within 2 years’ time? It’s not proper, the minister stressed.
