Wike Says FCT Magistrate Court Project to Be Delivered in June

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has said that the FCT Magistrate Courts buildings in three different locations in the capital city will expectedly be delivered by the end of June 2026.

Wike while confirming the contractor’s promise, expressed happiness over
the ongoing construction of the buildings.

Speaking during an interview with newsmen after an inspection of various court sites on Friday, the minister explained that the projects are critical “presidential interventions” aimed at ensuring the judiciary does not lack the necessary space to dispense justice effectively.

The minister toured three high-priority sites, starting from Asokoro, where he noted the technical difficulties posed by the terrain.

I’ve seen the level of work, even though the topography is very bad. It’s a problem, but we will overcome it,” Wike said.

The minister then visited Jabi, where the foundation for a new magistrate court complex was laid in late 2025.

The ongoing projects total the construction of 40 residential housing units for judges across the FCT High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Federal High Court.

Wike noted that these efforts, directed by President Bola Tinubu, are intended to provide “definitive accommodation” and additional courtrooms to improve the welfare and efficiency of the third arm of government.

Meanwhile, the minister has dismissed criticisms that these infrastructural projects could compromise judicial independence, adding that the executive has a responsibility to support all sectors of government.

“The judicial arm of government is very critical in ensuring prompt administration of justice. There is no particular reason we must pay attention to one sector and leave other critical sectors unattended,” he stated.

According to him, the judicial interventions form part of a broader drive for development in the FCT, which includes road projects, school renovations, and improvements in the health sector.
