The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of five individuals involved in a criminal conspiracy and the sale of stolen property. The arrests were disclosed on Tuesday during a press briefing by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, who spoke on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed.
Among those arrested is a female suspect accused of receiving stolen tricycles from Kano State and selling them in Bauchi. The suspects were identified as Maryam Ibrahim, also known as Ummi, aged 30, Adamu Sale, alias Brother, 30, Umar Ibrahim, alias Baba Luti, 31, Nasiru Usman, 29, and Nasiru Musa Umar, alias Nass, 27.
Wakil revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that Maryam Ibrahim had sold approximately seven stolen tricycles within Bauchi. The operation was made possible through credible intelligence and the efforts of the State Intelligence Department of the Bauchi Police Command.
Seven tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, were recovered as exhibits. Wakil stressed that receiving stolen property is a serious crime under Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment.
The PPRO expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation and valuable information, which contributed to the successful arrest of the suspects.
