Women’s group, HILWA, demands 30% women representation in decision making

Women advocacy group, HLWA, has demanded that both arms of federal and state governments should allocate 30 percent of decision makers  in educational sector to women  for improving the standard of girl child education in the country.

The national chairperson of the association, Madam Azuka Menkiti, who made the call during an appreciation ceremony held in Zamfara state capital Gusau said  saying her association will continue to press for support from all quarters to ensure that no girl child is kept out of school.

“HLWA members are committing time and resources to ensure that both the federal and state governments pay serious attention towards reducing the alarming rate of illiteracy especially among girls and women in the society” she stressed.

She said result of so many researches carried out by  various educational experts indicates that lack of education and general ignorance creates bundles of problems,  much of which was attributed to non participation of women in decision making in the education project.

“We seriously need many girls in our schools, more female teachers,  more female decision makers, to serve as voices to the voiceless which has clearly defined our project” she emphasised

According to the national chairperson, the association has been advocating for more enrollment of girls in schools and total elimination of gender discrimination and all forms of violence against women and girls in Nigeria.

Menkiki explained that any state the association visits in the country, it always goes with facts and figures to the state governments to support their claims and struggles.
