Work in Progress on Lagos-Ibadan Standard Railway Project

CRRC Tangshan Company Limited, the Chinese company manufacturing train coaches for the Lagos-Ibadan rail line said on Friday that the second batch of 12 coaches is currently in transit to Nigeria from the Tianjin Port, Chinese media outfit, China.org.cn reports.

The manufacturer said the first batch of 16 coaches arrived at the Lagos port on February 1, 2020, while the third and final batch of the 32 passenger coaches would be shipped.

Last April, CRRC Tangshan took an order of 60 passenger coaches, consisting of 44 cab cars and 16 trailer cars of its revamped 25T type, to be exported to Nigeria and serve along the 156-km Lagos-Ibadan rail line.

Daybreak reported that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had accused the company, which signed the contract in December 2017 and was supposed to expire in February 2019, of contract breach.

However, the manufacturer which had also built train coaches for the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, said on Friday that the first batch of 16 coaches arrived at the port of Lagos on February 1, 2020, while the second batch of 12 coaches was currently in transit.

CRRC Tangshan is a partner of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, builder of the Lagos-Ibadan tracks.
