Zamfara Elders Condemn Governor’s Rally as Insensitive

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Zamfara State Progressive Elders Group (ZPEG) has condemned Governor Dauda Lawal’s recent political rally, calling it insensitive and wasteful amidst ongoing violence and grief in the state.

ZPEG Chairman Alhaji Mustafa Aliyu Kaura stated that the governor’s decision to hold a lavish rally while citizens mourn the loss of hundreds of lives due to bandit attacks shows a lack of empathy and leadership.

The elders group raised concerns about:

They described it as Insensitivity towards victims of bandit attacks and their families.

It was considered Wasteful Spending on a “political spectacle” during a humanitarian crisis and a Neglect of IDPs, with over 245,000 taking shelter in camps across six local government areas

The group urged the governor to prioritize security, poverty alleviation, and basic necessities for the people, rather than engaging in “motorcades and political theatre”.
