Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has cautioned residents against aiding or providing support to Boko Haram insurgents, following a recent military operation in the state. The warning comes after an airstrike by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai in the Jilli area of Gubio Local Government Area on April 11, 2026. Jilli is located near the border between Borno and Yobe states.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Dauda Iliya, the governor said he had been briefed on the operation, describing Jilli market as an area previously linked to insurgent activities. He noted that the state government had shut down the Jilli and Gazabure markets about five years ago due to security concerns.
Zulum said the state maintains close coordination with the military and other security agencies, particularly when considering the reopening of markets or resettlement of communities affected by insurgency. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting residents and restoring stability, while urging the public to remain vigilant and share credible information with security agencies. The governor added that ongoing collaboration between the state government, neighbouring states, and security forces remains critical to sustaining peace in the region.
