Gov Eno sacks Special Duties Commissioner

By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has sacked his commissioner for Special Duties, Engr Bassey Okon.

No reason was given for the sack of the former commissioner for trade and investment under the administration of Udom Emmanuel.

A press statement endorsed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Enobong Uwah and made available to the media on Monday in Uyo thanked Okon for his services to the government of Akwa Ibom.

“In an ongoing effort to reposition this administration in line with the Arise Agenda, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno has relieved Engr Bassey Okon, Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties as commissioner in the State Executive Council with immediate effect.

“His Excellency thanks him for his services to the state and wishes him the best in his future endeavours.

“He is therefore directed to handover to the Permanent Secretary in his ministry. In the meantime, the ministry will be supervised by the SSG pending the appointment of a new commissioner.” The release stated.

His sack could signal the begining of a long awaited purge in the State Executive Council after the Governor retained the bulk of the commissioners who served out the tenure of former Governor Udom Emmanuel.
