16 Killed as Bandits Attack Kebbi Villages — Police Confirm

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of 16 people following a deadly attack by armed bandits on Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages in Augie Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Monday, the incident occurred on Saturday, April 6, 2025, at about 6:00 PM, when suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa gang invaded the two communities.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the heavily armed attackers stormed the villages in large numbers, rustling an unspecified number of cattle and engaging in violent clashes with residents.

“Tragically, the confrontation led to the loss of sixteen lives. The attackers fled with the stolen livestock,” the statement read.

Reacting to the incident, Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the violence and assured the public that security forces are intensifying efforts to track down those responsible. He confirmed the deployment of additional tactical units, including personnel from the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups, to bolster security in the area.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to eliminate banditry and all forms of violent crime in Kebbi State. Every available resource will be used to ensure justice for the victims,” CP Sani said.

The police further confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the affected communities, while a full-scale investigation is currently underway.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to secure the area and protect lives and property.
