By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A young man has sustained severe injuries after being attacked by suspected phone snatchers in Ungwan Boro area of Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The victim was reportedly left unconscious with deep head injuries after the assailants dispossessed him of his mobile phone and other valuables.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Tuesday evening between 4:20 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., behind Philkon International Model School in Ungwan Boro, where the victim was later found sitting helplessly by the roadside, surrounded by sympathisers.

Our correspondent, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, observed that the victim, who appeared disoriented and weak, initially communicated through signs before regaining some composure.

Narrating his ordeal in Hausa, the victim said he had travelled from Zaria, where he works, and was on his way to Kachia to visit his family, as his wife had just given birth.

He explained that he stopped in Ungwan Boro to see his brother but was attacked while trying to locate the house.

According to him, the attackers made away with his mobile phone, a “Ghana-Must-Go” bag containing personal belongings, and other valuables.

The victim said he could not clearly identify the exact location where the attack occurred, noting that a Good Samaritan later assisted him to the area where he was found.

Police officers were subsequently invited to the scene and conveyed the injured man to a hospital in a patrol vehicle.

Some residents reportedly contributed money to provide fuel for the police vehicle, while a man who identified himself as a relative of the victim accompanied him to the hospital for treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police regarding the incident.
