Governor Umo Eno has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State for the 2027 governorship election after securing 392,653 votes in the party’s primary election.
Eno was declared winner by the Chairman of the State APC Primary Elections Committee, Hon. Nwofe Alexander, who also presented him with a certificate of return at Ikot Ekpene Udo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
In his acceptance speech, the governor described the outcome as a strong vote of confidence from party members and pledged to sustain his administration’s development agenda.
He said the state government would continue implementing and expanding the ARISE Agenda to address development gaps and improve service delivery across the state.
“You have nominated me to continue the expansion of our growth and development, which in three years has been nationally acknowledged,” Eno said.
The governor pledged increased investment in agriculture and agro-allied enterprises to improve food production and affordability in the state.
According to him, initiatives such as the planned oil palm revolution, agricultural equipment leasing programme, and seedling support scheme would strengthen food security and boost local farming activities.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing projects across the 31 local government areas of the state, particularly in healthcare, education, and housing.
“We remain dedicated to the completion of all projects in the 31 local government areas, spanning healthcare and education, as well as our ARISE Compassionate Homes initiative,” he stated.
Governor Eno said his administration had either constructed or completed about 1,300 kilometres of roads and 40 bridges within three years in office.
He added that the government had built 31 primary healthcare centres and model primary schools across the state, while also offsetting over N82 billion from inherited liabilities estimated at N111 billion dating back to 2012.
The governor expressed optimism that the remaining debts would be cleared before the end of his first term in 2027.
He further stated that investments in aviation and tourism infrastructure had positioned Akwa Ibom as a growing regional tourism and business hub, citing the recent inaugural international flight from Victor Attah International Airport to Accra, Ghana.
Governor Eno also announced that Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi would remain his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
