The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, has commended the Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, for implementing improved security strategies within the institution.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, following a courtesy and congratulatory visit by the NSCDC commandant to the Vice-Chancellor at his office.
According to the statement, the visit was aimed at strengthening security collaboration between the NSCDC and the university to ensure the protection of lives and property within and around the campus community.
Commandant Ebenezer assured the university management of the Corps’ commitment to supporting efforts geared towards campus security and crime prevention, describing the institution as a critical national asset that must be safeguarded.
He also requested the provision of a patrol vehicle for NSCDC personnel attached to the university to improve operational efficiency and surveillance activities on campus.
The NSCDC commandant congratulated Prof. Usman on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, describing it as well-deserved and a reflection of his achievements during his tenure as Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic.
Ebenezer further noted that the visit was historic, as it marked the first time a state commandant of the NSCDC had officially visited the university since its establishment.
Responding, Prof. Usman expressed appreciation to the commandant for the visit, describing it as a rare honour and a significant gesture in the institution’s history.
The Vice-Chancellor described his appointment as a “homecoming,” noting that Prince Abubakar Audu University was where he began his academic career and rose through the ranks to become a professor.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the institution, stating that deliberate efforts were already being implemented to improve safety measures on campus.
Prof. Usman acknowledged the request for a patrol vehicle and assured the NSCDC command that it would receive due consideration, while reiterating the university’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at enhancing security.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the support of the Kogi State Government under Ahmed Usman Ododo, particularly in the areas of staff welfare and institutional development.
He appealed for sustained collaboration between the university and the NSCDC to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.
In his vote of thanks, the university’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Onuh Attah, commended the commandant and his team for their proactive support and contributions to campus security.
