Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has recorded a landslide victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries held across parts of the state, securing overwhelming support in Mikang and Langtang North Local Government Areas.
In Mikang LGA, the Returning Officer, Hon. Muhammad Auwal Hamza, announced that Mutfwang polled 6,288 votes to defeat his closest rival, Navy Commodore Yilchini Jan Bida (rtd), who scored 1,540 votes. A total of 6,446 voters were accredited for the exercise.
The results were declared at the APC Secretariat in Tunkus in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies.
Reacting to the outcome, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly praised security operatives and electoral officials for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process, describing the exercise as credible and transparent.
He said the governor’s victory was expected, citing what he described as the administration’s developmental projects and inclusive governance across Mikang Local Government Area.
According to him, the result reflects the confidence party members and residents have in the governor’s leadership.
In a related development in Langtang North Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, alongside party stakeholders, monitored the exercise at LEA Pallang (Kuffen A), where Mutfwang secured 2,573 votes, while his opponent, Bida, scored 36 votes.
The exercise recorded a large turnout of party faithful and was described by observers as peaceful, with strong grassroots mobilisation in favour of the governor.
Similarly, in Jos North Local Government Area, the Council Chairman, Barr. John Chris, voted at the Vernderpure Polling Unit and openly endorsed Governor Mutfwang for a second term.
He praised the governor’s leadership style, transparency, and commitment to development, describing him as the best option for continued progress in the state.
“The governor has demonstrated capacity, competence, and compassion in governance. He remains the best choice to continue leading the state toward greater prosperity,” Chris said.
