3 Ways to handle jealous friends

Jealousy is an ugly feeling and it could creep into your friendship and spoil everything that hold you and your friend(s) together.

Jealousy in friendship takes many forms, some subtle, others not so much. Some friends might accuse you of being too proud and feeling better than them.

Well, if you sense your friend or friends are becoming jealous, here are 3 ways to deal with it:

1. Do not ignore it
If you noticed your friend is jealous of your triumphs, do not ignore the situation. Ignoring the situation will only complicate things, thereby making your friendship take a worse turn.

2. Communicate with your friend
Communication is key in sustaining friendships. Honest and tactful communication will help solve issues as you will get to identify root causes and solutions to problems. It will bring about better understanding.

3. Try to see reasons why
It’s important you ask the why questions; ‘why’ your friend is acting the way they are. Why are they jealous of you? Why does this person feel this way now? Why does this person always have to turn things into a competition? Why does this person feel the need to watch you fail?

This will also make you understand the reason for their actions and know the steps to take.
