330kV Transmission Line Vandalised in Makurdi – TCN

By Abigail Philip David

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported an attempted vandalism of its Tower T195 along the Ugwuaji–Makurdi 330-kilovolt transmission line. The incident occurred on Saturday at Watuolo village, Utonkon, in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, revealed that the act of vandalism was thwarted thanks to the vigilance of local community members.

According to Mbah, the suspicious activity was noticed around 3 a.m. by residents, who immediately intervened. The community members managed to apprehend one of the suspects, while the others fled the scene. The apprehended individual was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

“TCN commends the people of Watuolo village for their swift action and vigilance,” Mbah said. “We also urge other communities hosting critical infrastructure to emulate this example and take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their vicinity.”

She further emphasized the importance of collaboration between TCN, security operatives, and host communities in combating vandalism, adding that community involvement remains a crucial element in safeguarding the nation’s power infrastructure.

“As we continue to work with security agencies and host communities to prevent vandalism, we appeal for increased vigilance by residents. Their support is vital in this fight,” she concluded.
