48 KWASU Students and Others Apprehended for Alleged Cybercrime

In an effort to combat the increasing prevalence of internet fraud, commonly known as “yahoo-yahoo,” operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ilorin Zonal Command have arrested 48 students from Kwara State University and two residents of Malete in Moro Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made following credible intelligence regarding the surge of cybercrime activities, particularly on campuses in the state.

After conducting discreet investigations and surveillance, the EFCC operatives apprehended the suspects in various hideouts on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

Among the arrested individuals are Idris Yekini, Ayantola Segun, Adeshina Taheeb, Mustapha Alamin, and several others listed by Oyewale. Additionally, the EFCC seized nine exotic cars, 24 laptops, and various brands of phones from the suspects.

Oyewale noted that the suspects will be prosecuted once the ongoing investigations are concluded.
