Woman raises alarm over son’s dissapearence

A mother, Mrs. —-Onuora has raised the alarm over the prolonged disappearance of her son, Onuora Obinna Edmond.

Mrs Onuora, who ran to the media during the weekend, said every effort to locate the whereabouts of her son had remained futile.

Edmond, from Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State was one of those arraigned by the police in 2012 over their involvement in the activities of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Prior to his arraignment, he was known to be in charge of IPOB in Awgu zone and had attended a rally in Onitsha, Anambra State, on May 28, 2012, which the police considered inciting.

He was later charged to court by the police over some violent attacks on some security formations which came days after the IPOB rally.

However, though Edmond was said to be in the hospital when the said attack occurred, the police stormed his family house where a notice of invitation was left for him through his mother.

It was gathered that he escaped but the police went ahead and tried him in absentia.

Other members of his IPOB group arraigned included Tochukwu Obi from Anambra State; Obinna Mama from Ebonyi State and Nzekwe Keneth from Nsukka Area of Enugu State. They were all convicted for waging war against the Nigerian state and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

However, Edmond’s mother told the media that she has searched for her son everywhere but there is no trace of him.

“I have gone to all the prison facilities here in Enugu but my son is not here. They tried him in a hurry, even in absence, just because he is seeking an independent Biafra nation.

“My son is not a criminal and has never been involved in any criminal activity; all he has been doing is telling Nigeria to allow the Biafra people have their own country.

“They said he was convicted but I can’t find him anywhere. I don’t know whether he is dead or alive.

“I am asking the Nigerian Government to provide my son,” she cried.
