2023: We Must Rotate Power To South To Retain Power – Akeredolu Warns APC

Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) should give its presidential ticket to the south to retain power in 2023.

The special convention of the party to pick a presidential candidate is scheduled for June 6. The Ondo governor was named as chairman of security and compliance for the convention.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Akeredolu said he and his colleagues at the Southern Nigeria Governors’ Forum believe that power should be zoned to the south.

“APC must work to retain power. We must rotate power to retain power !!! Rotate to the South. Shikena,” the governor opined.

The Ondo State Governor has remained one of the most vocal of all those who desire to see that power is rotated to the south, according him, the APC must take this bold step in a bid to avoid self-inflicted crises ahead of the 2023 elections.

Earlier in May, Akeredolu in a remark, noted that itwould be dishonest for anyone to argue against rotation at this period.

The two-term governor on the platform of the APC stated that the party ensured the principle of rotational representation guided its decision at the convention where it picked its chairman and other party officials.

He therefore stressed that it is the time for the party leaders to make a categorical statement, devoid of equivocation, on the pattern of succession.

According to Governor Akeredolu, it is the turn of the South to produce the next President and the APC leadership should have no difficulty in making pronouncement on such an important issue.

He emphasized the need for the ruling party to zone the presidency southward without delay, adding that the APC must also work to limit the tendencies for disagreement from other regions.
