Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has condemned in strong terms the attack on the Igemala of Idemoga-Ihaaja community in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected herdsmen.
The Governor who made this condemnation on Tuesday when he led members of the Executive and Security Council to assess the damage caused by the invasion where twelve persons were reportedly murdered.
Ortom who described the heinous act as unwarranted, Implored the Federal Government to provide security for the citizens to enable them carry out their businesses without fear of being attacked by bandits.
The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu, maintained that the Volunteer Guards would be equipped to assist the conventional security agents to defend the people against internal and external attacks.
Ortom appealed to them to be on alert and report suspicious movement to security operatives intead of taking laws into their own hands. He condoled with the families who lost loved ones and prayed for the reposed of their souls.
Also Speaking, the Chairman Okpokwu Local Government, Mrs Amina Audu disclosed that the victims were mostly youths. She applauded the Governor for his timely intervention.
