Cameronian Refugees in Benue Urged to Obey Laws of the Land as World Commemorates Refugees Day

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has urged the Cameronian Refugees in Benue State to keep to the laws of the land for peaceful coexistence with their host community.

The Governor who made this call on the occasion to commemorate world refugees day with the displaced persons, Implored them to look on to God for peace to enable them return back to their country.

Ortom who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Emergency Matters, Mr David Azenda identified with the Internally Displaced persons who are facing humanitarian crises.

The Governor commended development partners for their collective support over the years and enjoined them to maintain the tempo .

Team leader of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced persons, Adikpo Field Office, Mr Adeyemi Oluwasheyi hinted that there are 26.6 refugees with many of them being hosted in Nigeria.

Associate Protection Officer, United Nations High Commission for Refugees, Caritus Dabu stated that the day focuses on raising their plight, adding that their human rights need to be protected.

She lauded the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom for his support to the Refugees in the area. The theme for this year’s Refugees day is ” Everyone has the Right to seek for safety”.
