PROSPERITY CUP: Anyama-Ogbia Fc beat Agoro Fc 6-0

Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Yenagoa

Anyama Ogbia football Club on Tuesday defeated Agoro FC of Sagbama 6-0 on the third day of the Round of 16 clash at the ongoing Nigeria’s largest grassroot football tournament, the Prosperity Cup.

Vincent Azibapu stole the show as he scored four of the six goals. The prolific striker first announced his presence as early as the 5th minute when he received a sublime pass and tried to lob the ball over the approaching goalkeeper, but it was saved.

However, his second attempt started the harvest of goals, as he made no mistake finding the back of the net from 7 yards few minutes later, to give his team the lead.

Azibapu, who preferred to play wide, received another through pass and raced on to lash a shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to double the lead, and then went on to score two more goals on the day.

Gift Agala and Caleb Vincent were the other goal scorers for Anyama Ogbia, while Vincent Azibapu could have increased his tally, however wasted two clear cut chances in the second half.

The deflated Agoro FC of Sagbama played like the Super Eagles team against Denmark at the 1998 World Cup in France, as they had very few scoring opportunities including one in the second half when they were given a free kick inside the box, but it was also wasted.

The victory ensured no Sagbama side will feature at the mouth-watering quarter finals stage, after Agbere FC, crashed out of the tournament on Tuesday, following their loss to Osokama FC of Southern Ijaw.

In the first game watched by a large crowd of spectators at the Opolo Centre, Amassoma FC booked their place in the quarter finals stage after a tensed and entertaining encounter with UAC FC of Akassa.

The Brass based team came from behind twice, but we’re still no match to their opponent, as they lost three goals to two to the Southern Ijaw based team.

Amassoma FC of Southern Ijaw, Anyama-Ogbia of Ogbia, joins Peretorugbene United of Ekeremor, EGM FC of Yenagoa, Agbayama of Ekeremor, and Osokama FC of Southern Ijaw, into the quarter finals stage.

The last Round of 16 games will be decided at Nembe this Wednesday, as Opume FC of Ogbia take on Okoroma Tereke of Nembe in the first game at 1pm, while Odioma FC of Brass tackles Opolo FC of Yenagoa in the second game, at 3pm.
