Buhari’s government to recoup N614bn budget support given to 35 states

***The government of President Muhammadu Buhari needs states to restore the N614 billion earlier given to them

***Zainab Ahmed, finance minister, says a committee for the recouping of the assets has been set up

***Ahmed reveals that the committee is comprised of governors, officials from the finance ministry and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)

The central government has started moves to recuperate the total sum of N614 billion it prior provided for 35 states on what has been portrayed as budget support.

To this end, the government has set up a committee to recuperate the reserve.

The setting up of the committee comes around 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari introduced his bureau.

The minister of finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed, made the declaration when she advised State House journalists toward the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Recall that the minister had exhibited an update to the gathering concerning the budget support office which she said 35 states profited from.

According to her, every one of the influenced states would need to pay back an equivalent of N175 billion.

“Council agreed to constitute a committee of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), ministry of finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to finalize modalities for repayment,” she said.
