A notorious Kidnap leader in Benue State, Mr Kaanga Orhe has been gun down by the Operation Zenda of the Benue State Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police Mr Julius Okolo while briefing Journalists at the command headquarters in Makurdi after parading the body of the suspect, noted that the kidnapper was killed during a gun duel with the Police in a forest in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Commissioner of Police further disclosed that some of the kidnappers have been apprehended, stating that nine of them escaped with gun bullets into the forest.
The Police helmsman maintained that during the aforementioned operation, the Police had rescued Dr Obadiah Ettito, a Director with the Federal Medical Center, Makurdi and four others who were held captive by their abductors for two weeks.
He pointed out that the abductors demanded the sum of thirty million naira as ransom, adding however that no ransom was paid to any body. He said the abductees were released unhurt.
” We got a report that Dr Ettito was kidnapped by unknown Gunmen at the Judges Quarters in Makurdi, we quickly mobilized our members to fashion out ways to rescue him.
We started getting intelligence reports that he was taken to Katsina-Ala into a forest. On sighting our members, they engaged the Police in a gun duel and one of the kidnappers was shot dead”.
The Commissioner of Police told Journalists that the Command under his watch has met with stakeholders with the aim of fighting crime in the state. Ends
