BREAKING: Fayemi speaks out regarding EFCC investigation into alleged N4 billion fraud

Former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has denied being under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N4 billion fraud.

In a statement released on Friday by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office in Abuja, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, it was clarified that during Fayemi’s visit to the EFCC, no such allegation was raised during his conversation with the officials of the anti-graft agency.

The statement further explained that Fayemi’s visit to the EFCC office in Ilorin, Kwara State, was in response to a frivolous petition from a group attempting to tarnish his reputation. It emphasized that Fayemi had already notified the EFCC of his willingness to cooperate but requested a more suitable date for his appearance due to his commitments during the change of government period.

According to the statement, on Thursday, Fayemi, accompanied by his legal counsel, had a constructive discussion with the investigators at the EFCC office in Ilorin and was allowed to depart after a few hours.

The statement further expressed confidence that Dr. Fayemi’s visit had provided satisfactory answers to the agency’s inquiries regarding the petition. However, if further clarification is required, Dr. Fayemi is fully prepared to cooperate.

Additionally, the statement clarified that no allegation of a N4 billion fraud case was raised during Fayemi’s conversation with the EFCC. It emphasized that his response was solely in reference to a baseless petition from a faceless group known as the Ekiti Patriotic Coalition, which is believed to be a front for certain anti-Fayemi politicians aiming to tarnish his reputation.

Throughout his tenure as governor, Fayemi served the people of Ekiti State with unwavering dedication and was recognized for his principled leadership. The statement highlighted his commitment to the welfare of the citizens, significant progress in infrastructure development, and attracting valuable investments to the state.

It concluded by affirming that Dr. Fayemi will continue to maintain the highest standards of integrity for which he is known, expressing confidence that the truth will ultimately prevail.
