By  Milcah  Tanimu

On Tuesday, a devastating accident occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving eight others injured. The incident involved a Toyota Hiace bearing the registration number GAS 937 XA and took place near Christopher University.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, issued a statement to the media, attributing the accident to reckless overtaking and excessive speed.

According to the statement, “FRSC operatives, in collaboration with TRACE, conducted a rescue operation on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Christopher University. The incident unfolded at approximately 11:30 am on Tuesday and involved a Toyota Hiace with the license plate GAS937XA, carrying a total of ten individuals, comprising seven adult males and three adult females.”

The accident was deemed a solitary incident, with preliminary investigations pointing to the Toyota driver’s reckless overtaking maneuver, resulting in a collision with another stationary vehicle. Excessive speed was also a contributing factor to the tragic outcome.

Anthony Uga, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, issued a cautionary statement to motorists, emphasizing the dangers of excessive speed and reckless overtaking on the roads.
