A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Ojodu Abiodun, located in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, where a building owned by the Ayanshina family collapsed during a heavy downpour, resulting in the tragic loss of their two daughters on a fateful Saturday.
The collapse was reportedly triggered by a mudslide induced by the torrential rain. Within the structure at the time were 16-year-old Suliyat and her 25-year-old elder sister, Nofisat, who found themselves trapped when the building gave way.
The sisters had been inside the building when the rainfall commenced, and unfortunately, the structure collapsed, leaving them trapped.
It took considerable effort from concerned neighbors to free the sisters, who were injured and pinned under the rubble. Once rescued, both siblings were rushed to the nearby Tomade Hospital in Ojodu Abiodun.
An eyewitness, speaking on the condition of anonymity, described the shock and collective effort of the community to rescue the victims. He lamented the tragic loss, saying, “The sisters were inside the house when the incident happened. We all jointly made efforts to rescue them from the wreckage. We immediately took them to the hospital. It’s so sad that we lost them.”
Following the incident’s report to the police, the family insisted on conducting the burial of the deceased sisters in accordance with Islamic rites. The state Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, confirmed the incident and the family’s request for immediate burial.
