“8 Dead and 9 Arrested in Sagamu Cult Clashes, Police Confirm”

By  Milcah  Tanimu

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed that eight people have died, and nine individuals have been arrested in cult clashes in Sagamu. The clashes were triggered by a land transaction that took place in the town, where a commission or settlement was paid to a cult group by the landowner. A rival cult group learned of the payment and attempted to attack members of the other group to claim a share of the commission.

The situation escalated into a series of attacks and counterattacks that lasted from Wednesday to Sunday, resulting in the deaths of eight people. The police have arrested nine suspects, and evidence of their involvement in the killings was found. Two guns and several rounds of cartridges with evidence of recent use were also recovered.

Investigations into the killings are ongoing, and the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Jubril Odulate, has imposed restrictions on motorcycle use in the area between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily in an effort to restore peace to the troubled town.
