Kano Governor Removed by Tribunal, Declares APC Candidate as the Victor

The Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal made a decisive ruling on Wednesday, ousting the incumbent governor, Yusuf Abba of the New Nigeria People’s Party. Consequently, the tribunal announced the All Progressives Congress candidate, Nasir Gawuna, as the rightful winner of the March 18 governorship election.

The proceedings were initiated by a three-member panel, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, who conducted the proceedings virtually, commencing just before 10:00 am. The tribunal transmitted the proceedings from the venue of the Election Petition Tribunal located on Miller Road in Kano.

Additionally, the tribunal revoked the Certificate of Return that had been awarded to Yusuf by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). INEC had initially announced Yusuf as the winner with a total of 1,019,602 votes, surpassing Gawuna, who had garnered 890,705 votes.
