Yekini’s inspiring journey began in challenging circumstances, marked by homelessness and poverty. Despite these obstacles, his passion for football propelled him forward. He started his professional career with ‘UNTL FC’ in Kaduna in 1981 and later played for the Shooting Stars, earning the title of ‘African Footballer of the Year’ in 1983.

His pivotal role in leading Nigeria’s national team, the ‘Super Eagles,’ to the 1994 World Cup finals remains etched in football history. Yekini’s iconic celebration, clutching the net and shedding tears of joy after scoring Nigeria’s first-ever World Cup goal, became an enduring image of triumph.

Throughout his 14-year career with the Super Eagles, Yekini scored a remarkable 37 goals in 58 games for Nigeria, leaving an indelible mark on African football.
