Political Turmoil in Rivers State as Lawmakers Sign Impeachment Notice for Governor Siminalaye Fubara

By Milcah Tanimu

In a significant turn of events, the political crisis in Rivers State escalated on Monday when members of the state Assembly reportedly signed an impeachment notice directed at Governor Siminalaye Fubara.

During a session presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule, and attended by a substantial number of assembly members, the Leader of the House, Hon Edison Ehie, and those loyal to the governor were suspended from their roles.

Reports suggest that an explosion had taken place at the Assembly premises on Sunday night, purportedly intended to obstruct the lawmakers’ access to the Assembly on Monday.

Defying these challenges, several lawmakers entered the House as early as 7 a.m. and promptly commenced a plenary session where they collectively endorsed the impeachment notice against Governor Fubara.

Furthermore, armed policemen have cordoned off the entire Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly, adding to the tense and uncertain situation in the region.
