Kogi Civil Servants and Banks Join Nationwide NLC Strike

By Milcah Tanimu

Civil servants in Kogi State have heeded the directive from the Central Working Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to embark on a nationwide strike. The strike, which began from midnight on Tuesday, witnessed a significant turnout of non-compliance as workers across various sectors stayed away from their duties.

A visit to the Kogi State Secretariat along Zone 8 road revealed a complete absence of workers, with only security personnel present on the premises. The situation was mirrored at one of the new-generation banks, where doors remained closed, and only security personnel were observed.

The strike action, organized by the NLC and TUC, is a response to the perceived failure of the Federal Government to address crucial issues affecting workers, including minimum wage, insecurity, corruption, and governance challenges. The industrial action aims to draw attention to these concerns and press for concrete solutions.

While health institutions were expected to discharge patients and fully comply with the strike by Wednesday, the overall impact of the strike on various sectors in Kogi State reflects a unified effort by workers to advocate for their rights and demand necessary reforms.
