Journalist Mr Golok Nanmwa has penned a note to his late father, Late Engr Israel Adamu Golok on the first anniversary of his death.
Golok Nanmwa who is a senior Correspondent with Nigerian Pilot Newspaper , wrote a short tribute to his father on his face book page on Friday saying that his heart still aches because he misses him terribly
He wrote Can’t believe it’s been a year since Dad passed.
Still so hard to believe I’ll never hear your laughter, advise and words of encouragement again.
The note reads that Boba ( Baba) as we all call you ,I must confess your demise hit me and other siblings so hard, haba we spoke that morning fa (Nov 24th, 2022) ,only for me to be called 5 hours later that you were no more, haba Duniya .
Haba mana ,I was busy attending to office duties with my colleagues Polycap Auta of News Agency of Nigeria , Funom Joshua Inusa of TVC, Mr Bere Gyang Sati Josiah Buzun , Musa Pam., Martha Nyam and Kura Daniel as well as others at NBTT in Jos, when the sad news came in , hmmmm, this life no balance oo.
Omo make I speak pidgin English small, my Papa no dey spare the rod at all ooo ( Na Proper Tarok Man) Hard man to the Core.
He was a man that was feared by almost all of my childhood friends at the NEPA Senior Staff Quarters in Kanji Dam because of his disciplinary measures . @ Juliis enam., Olugbade Olugbenga ,@ Olawale Apole Gbemisola Kadiri, Yakubu Nehemiah , Elijah Tali Tim ,Micheal.Oriji , Ofulume Ekene and Tunde Adenyi can attest to this.
Boba as we all call you this is to appreciate you for the discipline you instilled in me, Omo I collect for your hand Wotowoto, I remember what you always tell me (“Nanmwa you are my first child, We from Plateau are very disciplined People , if you don’t bend I will break you, no child of mine will bring me disgrace”).
Going down memory lane,i have lost count the number of canes I got from you.
Omo My Dad doesn’t cane by asking a child to spread his or her palm ooo.
He tells about three people to carry the offending child and as they hold the child’s hands and legs, the cane lands, better strokes oo.
I also remember like yesterday how my Dad’s main man Engr Jimmy Yahaya of blessed memories, who does not tolerate nonsense also gave me good strokes of cane for seeing me at a football field in the afternoon on a Saturday close to his residence Agatha Yahaya Kayode u kwr na.
Daddy I must confess your displine shaped me sir.
My father’s attributes included hard work, dedication, generosity, sacrifice, resilience, trust, fear of God, love for mankind, etc.
These same attributes which he has, are the same things that have helped me over the years make I no lie.
Omo some of my colleagues say ha Nanmwa You too like work, omo my Papa like work pass me, make I no lie.
Even in the absence of your dear Wife, our Mum (Late Rauta Golok), the vacuum you created can’t be filled by anyone.
Your departure 365 days ago seems a million days, We all miss you.
I will forever remain indebted to you Boba .
Death didn’t allow me to repay all you did to me for that I always cry but God knows best.
Life is different without you now but I’m grateful I got to call you my dad.
Dad was one of the greatest men who ever walked this earth.
As your first child, I remember your favourite songs when you were a Youth Boba.
– Eddiie Grant’s – I don’t wanna dance.
Mtume’s Sugar free as well as that of Lucky Dube before you became born again and started listening to strictly gospel music ( Panam Percy Paul) and others.
I would not let you down Boba I promise.
Boba, I pray today that the love, discipline, advise and strength that you gave me and my siblings will carry us through towards a future that will make you so very proud, Ndinchi Boba.
Rest on to My Daddy, the disciplinarian and the shaper of my life Engr Israel Adamu Golok, You too much Sir.
Meanwhile this is to appreciate all those who stood by us during our grief and after wards.
Nagode Dad
Golok Nanmwa your Loyal son .
