[JUST IN] Abuja court denies Fubara’s loyalists bail

A Federal High Court in Abuja has turned down bail requests from the supporters of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who were implicated in the explosion at the state assembly. The accused individuals, Chime Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod, faced terrorism-related charges and were accused of involvement in the bombing incident that occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly in October 2023.

The explosion took place on October 30, 2023, coinciding with alleged attempts by certain lawmakers to impeach Governor Fubara. The defendants, charged with capital offenses related to terrorism and alleged murder, had applied for bail citing health concerns. However, Justice Bolaji Olajuwon, presiding over the case, dismissed the bail applications on Monday in Abuja.

Justice Olajuwon emphasized the serious nature of the charges against the defendants and pointed out that there was no evidence indicating that the correctional facility could not adequately address their health needs. The case has been adjourned until February 8, 2024, for further proceedings.
