Troops Prepared to Address Security Threats During Ramadan — DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has affirmed that troops stationed across the nation are ready to tackle any security challenges, particularly as the Muslim community begins the Ramadan season.

This assurance from the DHQ coincides with a statement from the Department of State Services (DSS), which extends felicitations to Christians observing Lent and Muslims preparing for Ramadan. The DSS urged citizens to remain vigilant, especially against the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

In its statement, the DHQ emphasized the importance of public awareness about potential threats, advised against gathering in crowded or suspicious areas, and encouraged citizens to promptly report any unusual objects, activities, or movements to relevant security agencies.

The DHQ spokesperson stated, “The military remains committed to defeating terrorists and their allies on the battlefield, dismantling their safe havens across the country. We are steadfast in our mission to defend the nation and safeguard its citizens.”

Highlighting the achievements of troops during the week, the DHQ reported that over 210 terrorists were neutralized, 142 were arrested, and 66 individuals involved in oil theft were apprehended. Additionally, 46 kidnapped hostages were rescued, and a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered.

In the South-South region, troops successfully curtailed oil theft activities, preventing an estimated sum of N2.2 billion from being lost. Furthermore, operations in the Niger Delta led to the discovery and destruction of 63 dugout pits, 46 boats, and 120 storage tanks associated with illegal refining activities.

The recovered items included various equipment used for illegal refining, vehicles, communication devices, and a substantial quantity of stolen crude oil and refined petroleum products.

The DHQ reiterated its commitment to maintaining stability and security across the country, emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, insurgency, and other criminal activities.
