Son Arrested for Allegedly Fatally Hacking 75-Year-Old Father

Okon Edet has been apprehended for allegedly using a machete to kill his father, Edet Oyoho, in Uruting Village, Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, over a land dispute.

The tragic incident took place on March 13, 2024, according to reports obtained by the press. Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, revealed that the deceased owned several parcels of land in the state, and the suspect confessed to the crime.

Macdon explained, “Following reliable intelligence, operatives of Okobo Division arrested one Okon Edet of Uruting Village for killing his father, Chief Edet Okon Oyoho, aged 75, by mercilessly beating him with a machete, leading to his demise.”

The suspect admitted to committing the crime, citing his father’s alleged sale of family land, including the parcel he had given him to build a house, as the motive behind his actions. When the suspect demanded payment for the land, his father allegedly informed him that the buyers had not yet paid, which incited the fatal attack.

This incident echoes a similar tragedy where another suspect, Nkereuwem Ekpo, allegedly murdered his grandmother, Martina Akpan, in Udo Village, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Ekpo purportedly severed his grandmother’s neck while stealing her money, amounting to N16,750.
