Over N112billion has so far been disbursed by Akwa Ibom state government for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the state in the last ten months.
It would also soon disburse N400million as grants to 800 graduates and participants of the Ibom-LED entrepreneurship programme, meant to encourage and stimulate the growth of private enterprise among indegenes of the state.
These were highlights of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Umo Eno and contained in a statement released by information commissioner Comrade Ini Ememobong to newsmen in Uyo yesterday.
A breakdown of the disbursement showed that 39 new road projects have been undertaken with N78.77bn released to fund them, while old projects have been funded to the tune of over N30bn with an additional N12bn recently released by Eno.
On agriculture, the Commissioner Dr Offiong Offor presented the status of the Food sufficiency and security plan of the administration with enhanced cassava cuttings set to be deployed to significantly increase the output of cassava adding that the Ibom Model Farm is on course with land preparation activities.
The statement said the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation indicated that proposals on Ibom Towers, FalconNext, Landmark Beach Resort were at different stages of activation while milling would soon commence at the Dakkada Global Oil Palms Ltd.
It said that 31 of the 100 ARISE Compassionate Homes earmarked to be completed this year would soon be ready while approval has been given for the increment of pension for pensioners who retired before 2012 from this month.
Council also charged the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Department of the Ministry of Justice to do more in the extermination of the anormally after they presented a report indicating that 1,349 cases had been prosecuted since 2021 with many convictions secured.
