JUST-IN: EFCC To Arraign Celebrity Bartender, Cubana Chief Priest, Over Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, known as Cubana Chief Priest, before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, for alleged abuse of the Naira currency.

Cubana Chief Priest will appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on a three-count charge, which includes allegedly spraying and tampering with Naira notes at a social event, a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The charges, filed on April 4 by EFCC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, and seven other lawyers on behalf of the anti-graft commission, allege that Okechukwu engaged in spraying N500 notes during a social event at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024. This conduct is in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

The indictment also accuses Okechukwu of similar offenses at social events in 2020 and January 2024, where he allegedly sprayed N500 notes, constituting further violations of the Central Bank Act.

This arraignment follows the EFCC’s recent success in securing the conviction of cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, on similar charges, resulting in a six-month prison sentence.
