A CRY FOR URGENT HELP: Replacing the Deplorable Nembe Overhead Water Tank

The Nembe community in Bayelsa State has been enduring the dire consequences of the deplorable state of the overhead water tank for far too long. The deteriorating condition of this vital infrastructure, which has outlived its lifespan poses a significant risk to residents of Nembe and demands immediate attention. This protest seeks to draw the focus of the Bayelsa State Government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the urgent need for the construction of a new overhead water tank in Nembe to avert the risk of collapse and ensure the provision of a reliable water supply.

Risk of Collapse and Safety Concerns

The existing overhead water tank in Nembe which was constructed in 1974 by the administration of then Governor of old River State, H.E Alfred Diete Spiff is in a state of disrepair, with visible signs of structural weakness and deterioration. The risk of collapse is a looming threat that endangers the lives and properties of the residents. The potential consequences of a collapse are dire, with the likelihood of injury, loss of life, and further disruption of essential services. The safety concerns associated with the current state of the water tank necessitate immediate action to construct a new and structurally sound infrastructure that can guarantee the uninterrupted supply of water to the community.

Reliable Water Supply and Community Well-being

The provision of a reliable water supply is fundamental to the well-being and development of the Nembe community. The current state of the overhead water tank has led to water scarcity, affecting the daily lives of the residents and impeding their access to clean and safe water. The absence of a dependable water supply has also hindered commercial activities, exacerbated health risks, and contributed to economic hardships. Constructing a new overhead water tank is essential to ensure the sustained availability of water for domestic, and commercial purposes, thereby promoting the overall well-being and prosperity of the community.

Call to Action

In light of the imminent risk of collapse and the critical need for a reliable water supply, we, The Corncern Indigenes of Nembe, urgently call upon the Bayelsa State Government and the NDDC to prioritize the construction of a new overhead water tank in our community. We implore the authorities to allocate the necessary resources and expertise to undertake this vital infrastructure project and ensure its timely completion. The safety and well-being of the residents of Nembe depend on the provision of a structurally sound water tank, and it is imperative that the government and relevant agencies take proactive measures to address this pressing issue.

Conclusion

The deplorable state of the Nembe overhead water tank poses a significant risk to the safety and well-being of the community. The urgency of constructing a new water tank cannot be overstated, and we urge the Bayelsa State Government and the NDDC to heed our call and take immediate action to address this critical need. The residents of Nembe deserve a reliable and safe water supply, and it is incumbent upon the authorities to prioritize the construction of a new overhead water tank to ensure the sustained development and prosperity of the community.
