Former Super Eagles forward and President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, Tijani Babangida, found himself in the midst of tragedy on Thursday following a car accident. The accident sadly claimed the life of his younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida.
Tijani Babangida, renowned for his pivotal role in the Atlanta 1996 Olympic team that secured Nigeria’s gold medal, was traveling along the Kaduna-Zaria Road when the accident occurred.
Emmanuel Babayaro, General Secretary of PFAN and a former teammate, shared the heartbreaking news in a statement, urging everyone to keep Babangida and his family in their prayers.
“Ibrahim Babangida, his younger brother, died on the spot from the accident while Mr. President (Babangida) and his family were taken to the hospital,” Babayaro said.
He concluded with a prayer for the departed soul of Ibrahim Babangida, hoping for peace and solace for the grieving family.
