Tinubu names 3.2 km Kwali Arterial Road after late Ladi Kwali

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike has named the newly commissioned 3.2 km Kwali Road Bridge at Shagari / Satellite quarters, after the late Nigerian Porter, Ladi Kwali.

Wike who officially commissioned the 3.2 km road after 14 years said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the road be named after the popular Abuja indigene, Ladi Kwali Road.

The FCT Minister said, ” Before the Chairman of Kwali Area Council asked, Mr. President has said that a popular Abuja person who has in one way contributed to the development of Abuja must be named after the road, so it is very important that charity must begin from home, so this road must be named Ladi Kwali road.”

Wike said that infrastructural development is not about parties, but about Nigerians, about Abuja residents, adding that what is important to Mr. President is to bring back hope to the people.

‘It doesn’t matter where you belong to, his ambition, his vision is to make Nigerians believe that their hope must come back; that is why we have done what we have done today.”

“This is not the only road we are doing in Kwali, your Chairman has announced the one that we are going to flag off soon, and there is another one that is going on.”

So, in this year alone Kwali we have not less than three roads. This was not like that before, so Mr. President has brought back hope to all of us, the minister reiterated.

Wike further assured Kwali indigenes that all the road would be illuminated with streetlights.

According to him, the President has directed that he should make sure that solar light is provided on this road. So,that is why we are saying when you have the right leadership, you will get good results.

The Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. Danladi Chiya expressed his gratitude to the FCT Minister for making the Ladi Kwali Road a reality under eight months after a long embargo of 14 years.

He said,” I had complained about this road some time ago at a road flag-off in one of the Area Councils, and today we are here to commission this road. The hope that was lost is regained today.”
We have never seen it like this, but within three months you made it possible.”

In an interview of the road, the Coordinator, Satellite Town Development Department, Hon. Zulkiflu Abduljadir explained that the road consists of 4 span Kwali bridge and 3.2 km Access road to Kwali bridge.

“The new road will significantly improve access to various parts of the Area Councils linking Kwali town with already developed new layouts.”

It will also serve as an alternative route, facilitating smoother and more efficient travel to and from Kwali town and its environs, he stated.
