By Milcah Tanimu

The 2024 european championship (euro 2024) has advanced to a critical stage, with ten national teams having secured their places in the knockout round. Six more teams are expected to join them in the round of 16 by the end of this week.

Germany, the host nation, was the first team to qualify, finishing group a with seven points after two wins and one draw. Switzerland followed closely behind, securing second place with one win and two draws.

In group d, spain achieved a flawless performance, winning all three of their matches and topping the group with nine points. Italy secured the second spot with one win, one draw, and one defeat.

Group c saw england struggle but ultimately finish at the top with just one win in three games. Denmark took the second spot, while slovenia, finishing third, hopes to advance as one of the best third-placed teams.

Group d has been the most surprising, with austria, led by coach ralf rangnick, finishing ahead of european heavyweights france and the netherlands. France managed one win and two draws, which was enough to secure second place, while the netherlands finished third, also hoping to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

Groups e and f have not yet been fully decided at the time of writing, but portugal from group f has already guaranteed their place in the round of 16 with two consecutive wins and one game still to play.
