Kaduna Electric Announces Tariff Increase to N209.5/kWh

By  Milcah  Tanimu

Kaduna Electric has announced a tariff increase for customers on Band A feeders, raising rates from N206.80/kWh to N209.5/kWh.

This change was communicated to customers on Wednesday, July 3, by the company’s head of Corporate Communications, Abdulazeez Abdullahi. “The management of Kaduna Electric informs the public of an upward review in the tariff of Band A feeders from N206.80/kWh to N209.5/kWh,” the notice stated. The new rates took effect on Monday, July 1, 2024, and apply to both prepaid and postpaid customers.

Despite the increase for Band A, tariffs for customers on bands B, C, D, and E will remain unchanged. The announcement follows a recent statement by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who emphasized the relative affordability of Band A tariffs compared to self-generated energy. He noted that Band A consumes 40 percent of the energy in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

The increase by Kaduna Electric suggests that other electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) may follow suit with their own tariff hikes in the coming days. The company has assured affected customers of a minimum power supply of 20 to 24 hours daily.
