US CDC, Africa Field Epidemiology Network, Visit Sokoto Health Commissioner

The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) led by Director programmes for the global Immunization Division of the US CDC, Dr. Patricia Tanifum, have paid an advocacy visit to the Sokoto state Commissioner for Health Hajiya Asabe Balarabe.

According to the Director programme they were at the commissioner’s office to seek for it’s collaboration and support for AFENET initiatives in promoting polio eradication vaccine awareness and uptake, particularly in rural areas.

She also highlighted the importance of vaccination in preventing the spread of polio and other diseases and showcased their efforts in partnering with traditional rulers to sensitize communities on the significance of polio eradication vaccine.

Media aide to the Commissioner, Murjanatu Magaji also said Hajiya Asabe Balarabe while responding, expressed state government’s commitment to supporting AFENET and acknowledged the crucial role vaccination plays in maintaining public health.

The visit culminated in a fruitful discussion with both parties agreeing to work together to address the challenges hindering effective healthcare delivery particularly in the area of polio eradication vaccine administration.

The Commissioner pledged to visit rural areas to assess the situation and identify strategies to improve healthcare services including increasing access to polio eradication vaccines.
