Asake Talks About His Musical Style and Language Preferences

By Milcah Tanimu

**Nigerian superstar Asake** has opened up about his preference for singing in Yoruba, despite his ability to perform in English.

In a recent Instagram Live session, Asake, who has just released his highly anticipated third album *Lungu Boy*, discussed his choice of language in music. When asked by fans why he predominantly sings in Yoruba, the artist explained that while he is capable of singing in English, he feels more at ease performing in his native language.

“I can sing in English, but I’m more comfortable singing in Yoruba,” Asake shared. “So if you vibe with me, vibe with me in Yoruba,” he added, emphasizing his connection to the language.

Asake’s latest album, *Lungu Boy*, features collaborations with major artists including Wizkid, Central Cee, Travis Scott, Stormzy, and Ludmilla. During the Instagram Live session, he revealed an interesting tidbit about his collaboration with Wizkid. Asake noted that he was unaware that Wizkid would feature on the track “MMS” until P.Priime, the song’s producer, played it for Wizkid, who then decided to add his verse.

The album has already made waves, setting a new record for the highest opening day streams for a song on Spotify Nigeria, and Asake’s partnership with Wizkid contributed to this success. Despite the impressive lineup, Asake was asked why Davido wasn’t featured on the album. He responded by mentioning that they have unreleased tracks together that will be unveiled in the future.

Asake’s *Lungu Boy* release is also a prelude to his upcoming tour, which will include performances at renowned venues such as the O2 Arena and Madison Square Garden. This tour will mark a significant milestone, as Asake will become only the fourth Nigerian artist to headline Madison Square Garden.
