President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to the Niger State Government and the families affected by the tragic fuel tanker explosion that occurred on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road in Niger State on Sunday. The accident claimed the lives of 48 people and numerous livestock.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, Tinubu expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and assured continued support for the affected families and victims.
The statement read: “President Bola Tinubu sends heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the petrol tanker explosion on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road, which claimed the lives of 48 individuals and livestock.”
According to reports from the Niger Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the explosion also left many people injured, including those aboard a truck carrying cattle and passengers.
The President sympathized with the families of the deceased and injured, as well as the owners of shops impacted by the disaster. He prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Tinubu also commended both federal and state emergency services for their prompt response to the tragedy.
The statement added, “He praised the good-hearted Nigerians who rushed to the scene to assist victims and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at providing relief.”
Furthermore, Tinubu directed federal agencies involved in transportation and road infrastructure to intensify efforts and collaborate with state governments to improve the safety of travellers and residents.
