Breaking News: Court Grants Bail to 10 #EndBadGovernance Protesters

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters who were arrested and charged with treason and other offenses. The court set the bail at N10 million each, with one surety in the same amount.

In delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Justice Nwite emphasized that Nigeria’s criminal justice system provides protections for both the prosecutor and the defendant. He upheld the argument by defense counsel Abubakar Marshall, representing the 1st, 2nd, and 4th defendants, stating that “anyone charged with a criminal offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

Taking these factors into account, the judge granted bail to all ten defendants, saying, “I have carefully considered the submissions of counsel from both sides. The defendants are hereby granted bail, regardless of the nature of the alleged crime.”

Each defendant is required to provide N10 million bail along with one surety in the same amount.
