Police Arrest Suspected Illicit Drug Dealer in Benue State

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Mr. Ameh Owaocho, a resident of Ogbadibo Local Government Area, on allegations of dealing in illicit drugs.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Steve Yabanet, it was revealed that the arrest occurred during a routine patrol along the Igumale-Utonkon road. The police intercepted a vehicle driven by one Michael Abah of Ugbokolo.

During the search of the vehicle, officers discovered five 100kg bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The driver, Michael Abah, confessed that he had been contracted by Mr. Ameh Owaocho to transport the illegal substance. He also admitted that he has been transporting Indian hemp for Mr. Owaocho since 2023.

Following this confession, Mr. Ameh Owaocho was arrested. The case has since been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
