Nigerian Troops Neutralize Oil Thieves

Troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army neutralized two suspected oil thieves and detained 18 others in anti-bunkering operations across the Niger Delta. These operations targeted illegal activities in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers states, according to Lt.-Col. Danjuma Danjuma, the division’s spokesperson.

During the operations, soldiers destroyed 13 illegal refineries and seized 60,000 liters of stolen petroleum products. They also recovered seven boats, two AK-47 rifles, and 69 rounds of ammunition. In Ahoada West Local Government Area, two suspects died during a gunfight with the troops, who also uncovered eight illegal connection points on pipelines.

Meanwhile, in Bille, Rivers State, soldiers dismantled four illegal refining sites and confiscated two boats along with 6,000 liters of stolen products. In Odagba village, they intercepted wooden boats carrying 5,000 liters of stolen petroleum, along with two vehicles and four motorcycles used for the operation.

In Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa states, further operations led to the arrest of nine suspects. Soldiers destroyed more illegal refineries and recovered thousands of liters of crude oil and petroleum products. The suspects were later handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
