Top Three Players to Watch in Nigeria’s U17 Women’s World Cup Squad

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, is set to compete against the world’s best in the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. Scheduled from October 16 to November 3, 2024, in the Dominican Republic, the Flamingos aim to build on their third-place finish in 2022 and secure their first tournament victory.

Competing in Group A with hosts Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand, Nigeria will depend on standout players to make an impact. Here are three Flamingos to keep an eye on:

1. Harmony Chidi

Harmony Chidi, a forward for Imo Strikers, has been outstanding, scoring 12 goals during qualifying. She netted at least one goal in every match and achieved two hat-tricks, making her the top scorer across all six confederations. Chidi’s goal-scoring ability will be vital for the Flamingos’ success.

2. Taiwo Adegoke

Defender Taiwo Adegoke from Remo Stars Ladies will lead the Flamingos’ defense. Adegoke is a skillful ball-playing defender whose leadership and vision will be crucial during the group stages. Her ability to organize the defense and initiate counter-attacks will make her a key player to watch.

3. Taiwo Afolabi

Midfielder Taiwo Afolabi from Delta Queens has shown maturity and tenacity throughout the Flamingos’ record-breaking qualifying campaign. Her control and dominance in midfield will be essential for Nigeria’s chances in the tournament.
